This classic New York coffee cup is now immortalized in ceramic form. Once a staple of every corner deli, this blue and white Greek motif is quickly disappearing from NYC. Luckily, this durable item is much longer lasting than the old-fashioned paper version. A must-have for every city-living coffee drinker. Made in China.
3.75" H, 10 fl. oz. capacity. Dishwasher and microwave safe.
The original paper cup, called the Anthora, and it was designed by
Leslie Buck in the late 1960s. Though he had no formal training in art, he executed the design himself. It was an instant success selling more than 500 million.
Mr. Buck made no royalties from the cup, but he did so well in sales commissions that it hardly mattered. On his retirement from Sherri in 1992, the company presented Mr. Buck with 10,000 specially made Anthoras, printed with a testimonial inscription. Mr Buck passed in 2010.
